Distance Tarot Readings & How They Work

How can you do a tarot reading when you are not face-to-face with the person?

I have been asked this many times. Since the first version of this blog post there has been a plethora of articles written about distance readings. I don’t need to add to that, but I did want to update my blog with my experience.

I’ve provided tarot readings in person, over the phone, through messenger and email. It all remains very accurate because energy is all interconnected. In some cases I have felt more comfortable in a distance reading because I can be as comfortable as I like (as in, in my pjs!) and the information flows more freely. All feedback I have received has been positive.

Tapping into the energy from a distance is just as effective as face-to-face. In today’s digital world receiving distance readings have become quite common place. Heck, if you’re feeling nostalgic, I will snail-mail you a hand written reading and I have great confidence that it will resonate for you.

Maybe you’re still wondering how it works. If their energy isn’t there, how can the reading be done? Energy is all around. Essentially, we are all connected by tiny molecules. The esoteric and scientific communities can agree on that (even if that’s the only thing they agree on). Any reader can pick up on your energy, no matter where you are in the world in relation to them.

Doesn’t the client need to shuffle the cards? No. This is a myth. The client does not need to shuffle the cards. I know many readers who don’t allow anyone to touch their cards, even if they are sitting across the table. This is just a preference.

I hope you have found this information useful. If you have any questions feel free to contact me. If you would like to book an email reading click here for more info.

On-Going Lessons: Week of July 17, 2017

This was written by me a few weeks ago. Some of you who know me will have already heard/read this . However, being called to share these exact type of things.

Daily practice. Daily practice is sooo important. Whatever it is you want to be good at. Whoever the person is that you want to be. Practice it daily. Even if only for a few minutes of the day.

Be open. Angels – not something that has resonated with me… now seems to be resonating. Being open to learning, to new things. Just because you know something, and have known something for 20, 30, 40 years… there is STILL something to be learned. There are always nuggets of truth and wisdom to be found in everyone’s bullshit. Once you believe you’re an expert, the energy goes stagnant. Be open to things you think you can’t learn from.

I am magical. I am powerful. Those moments where I feel like an absurd whack-a-doo have been some of the times that have proven to be my most accurate. Remember the times of accuracy to remain empowered. Times of error or inaccuracy are there for a learning experience. Nothing is lost or wasted.

There is only the now-moment. Across all time and space, through all our lifetimes, there is only the now-moment. All of it is happening now. We are alive, we are dead, we are the leaders, we are the peasants. We are all of it happening now.

Let go of letting go. Let go of the idea of “letting go.” Getting too wrapped up in whether you are holding on too tight, or getting wrapped up in the “how-to” of letting go… it all just does the opposite. To truly let go is to not even have the idea of letting go, because whatever it is you’re holding onto will have already moved on, hence no need to even think of “letting go.” You cannot release something that you have never even held.

Send reiki to your morning coffee.

Dreamwork and Crystal Combinations: Labradorite, Lepidolite, and Moonstone

Since the last blog regarding crystal combinations I have worked with a new trio. The results were pretty intense. I found I fell asleep faster, and the dreams were vivid, and with great recall. Using same meditation technique described here, or see below.

-Labradorite is a stone that aids in reducing stress and increasing calmness, which is great for falling asleep. Helps to increase intuition, psychic abilities, visions, clairvoyance, prophecy, communicating with higher realms and spirit guides, accessing Akashic records, and moving between realms. This quality will help in getting to a state of lucidity. This stone encourages new ideas, which will help you be open to new experiences in the dreamscape. This is also a stone of protection, which I look at it as protection from nightmares, and night terrors.

-Lepidolite is another calming stone. It triggers deep meditation, theta state, which is a dream state used in lucidity – or astral projection. This stone stimulates coincidences and synchronicity – little moments that catch your eye, seem to line up – this is great for setting intentions on triggers for lucid state in the dreamscape.

-Moonstone yet another calming stone (yes, I want you to have a really restful sleep, it triggers lucidity and helps with recall!) this stone is said to cure sleeplessness, and drives away nightmares. It creates a channel for prophecy, helps access subconscious, intuition, and clairvoyance. This is a stone that provides protection for night travellers – I see this as the travellers of the dreamscape, and the astral travellers.

Clockwise from top: lepidolite, moonstone, labradorite

I will repost the steps to the meditation I do before falling asleep:

Place crystals under pillow, in pillow case (so they don’t get knocked everywhere), or you can put them in a drawstring bag under your pillow if you don’t want them inside the case.

Meditation:
– Take a few deep and calming breaths
– Focus on the crystals under the pillow
– Visualize their energy merging with my energy and filling my entire body
– I think of the particular qualities of the stone and state it in my mind “lepidolite to reach theta state, labradorite for visions, moonstone accessing subconscious” (they all promote calm and relaxation, so I do not state that)
– If I have a purpose, such as receiving a message from a spirit guide, I state this in my mind now
– Take a few more deep breaths and drift off to sleep as I sense the calming energies around me

Brightest Blessings,
Phoenix Rose

Tarot Talks: How to Be Objective in a Reading

Last week I said that I would be posting sample questions and spreads for using tarot to navigate your life. However, I am going to go a different direction given a conversation I had this week with some dear friends in the tarot community. I do apologize and will get to it in a future post. This seemed like a more pressing thing to talk about as even the most skilled readers will ask other readers for input in interpreting cards for themselves. This is because it can be difficult to remain objective when you are too close to the situation.

We can’t see the forest for the trees.

How I learned to become objective for myself is to read cards for other people. Not close friends and family. Reading for absolute strangers (you can find many groups where readers do free exchanges). Reading for people or situations you know little about can have a great impact on exercising your intuition. One mistake I made reading for myself is that I would look up every single possible meaning of each and every card. I was on information overload. Not knowing which interpretation to accept. It was stressful to say the least.

When reading for others is when I stopped stressing over possible meanings.  If I did a 3-card spread I would literally only read the meanings of each card that pertained to the other cards in the spread. Nine times out of ten this hit the nail on the head for those I read for. This lesson is two-fold because I learned how to connect the card meanings to each other, which is common for any newbie to struggle with.

The following are some methods to remain objective in a self reading (or reading for a situation you’re too close to):

– Act as though you are reading for someone else, what would you tell them based on the cards you see?
– Act as though it is your Spirit Guide / Guardian Angel who is giving you a reading, what would they say to you through these cards? What kind words, advice or encouragement are they trying to send you?
– Make note of all the things that come to mind from your reading, ask another reader their input without seeing what you’ve noted, and compare what interpretations line up.
– Pick a book, or website, of interpretations that you don’t normally use and use strictly those interpretations (www.biddytarot.com is a great resource)
– Read for someone else, often there are messages in there for the reader as well as the querent.

Most important thing is to relax, breathe, and don’t take the reading too seriously. We can only perceive from our current mindset. If we are in a bad mood we are likely to only see the negative aspects of a card. Sometimes I take the cards at face value and see what humor I can see in the pictures (see below memes). It’s a valuable lesson in shifting focus. As that’s what you have to do to gain an objective perspective. Remove yourself from the center of the storm and get a bird’s eye view for more clarity.

What are some methods you use in remaining objective in readings?

Phoenix Rose

Dreamwork: Dream Interpretation

In last week’s post we discussed creative triggers that can spark lucidity in dreams.  This week I would like to discuss dream interpretation.  I will not be listing a dictionary of what all symbols could possibly mean.  There are several resources online where you can find these meanings.

Interpreting your dreams is fascinating work and gives an interesting perspective on your subconscious mind. Even if you remember only one thing from your dream last night, look up the symbol meaning. I have listed my two frequented resources for dream meanings at the end of the post. Write the interpretation down in a notebook or your phone.  Many people suggest keeping a dream journal, to be honest, I very rarely journal, but I do have a place to write down those really weird dreams before they’re forgotten.

When first interpreting your dreams do not over analyze.  The number one factor in interpreting a dream is how you felt in the dream, or immediately upon waking.  The feeling and atmosphere dictate more clearly how the dream symbols should be interpreted than the symbols themselves.  If you dream that you’re in the dark, but you are not afraid then this is good indication that this dream is about learning and integrating unknown aspects of yourself, bringing them into awareness for learning and growth. Another could dream that they are in the dark and terribly afraid – same dream symbol – however, they are in denial or have fears about these unknown aspects of themselves.  Same dream, different meanings.

For the next week, pick out 1-3 things you remember from your dream and note their interpretation. Include the following information: how you felt in dream/upon waking, what resonates from the dream symbol interpretation, what doesn’t resonate from the meaning, how you feel this applies to your waking existence.

If you don’t remember any dream symbols, then take note of how you felt, or how you think you felt in the dream. E.g., happy, sad, scared, weird, etc. For further clarification, dream symbols are anything from a person, place, thing, colour, animal, plant, ocean… You name it and there is a dream meaning for it!

Tarot Talks: Stop Comparing and Start Gaining Clarity

We all search for clarity in various ways. While the motivations may be different for the individual, it all comes from a place of comparisons – wanting what others’ have that we don’t, believing the grass is greener on the other side, or even comparing our current reality to what we think our life “should” look like. This place of comparing emphasizes our insecurities and doubts. It makes our frustration signal rise and the downward spiral begins. We become clouded and need to clear the way to make more effective decisions in our lives.

Tarot is a tool that helps move from a place of comparing to a place of clarity

Tarot is a tool to help gain clarity into a confusing or frustrating situation. The place of comparing isn’t necessarily a negative thing, as humans we need to be able to compare, make sound judgments that could literally mean life or death. We tend to take this comparing to other levels: jealousy, envy, self-doubting, insecurities, and feelings of worthlessness. This was not what our filters of comparison was designed for.
When we are angry or frustrated it often means that we are not in balance. We see, hear, think something that does not line up with our quality, or ideal, existence. Uncomfortable feelings often urge us to act upon “fixing” what may be wrong. This is the process of acting out of anger and winding up with results that actually made things worse for us.

Tarot can assist in seeing things from different angles and gaining a new perspective, it can help interrupt our negative thought and behavior patterns and suggest new thoughts and behaviours that can assist in getting more effective results.

We have not been taught to listen to our intuition much less trust it. Tarot is a direct line of communication to that inner voice, Higher Self, that sometimes seems to scream at us, though we may be too wrapped up in our own BS to even notice. Thoughts appear, we have beliefs on those thoughts, we have stories we tell ourselves – which may or may not be true – we have all these things circling our minds and it gets muddled up with the voice of our Higher Self which is trying to guide us on our life’s purpose, trying to guide us to succeed and attain our goals. Our mind gets all muddled up with thoughts that we don’t know whether we are legitimately supposed to do something or not. We can no longer tell if it’s our intuition or is it just self-doubt.
A dear Soul Sister of mine said, “we wouldn’t need tarot if we trusted ourselves and didn’t let insecurities hinder us.” One of the first things that you learn in tarot is to trust your intuition. Above all else, no matter what the interpretation books say, go with your intuition and gut feeling on what you see within the cards.

Tarotists don’t have all the answers, and we are not full of clarity and enlightenment, we are humans and often seek other readers to help us gain clarity in situations.

Sometimes we cannot see the forest for the trees, and that is okay as it’s a natural part of life, learning, and personal growth. It is normal as humans to need things mirrored back to us to get deeper understandings, and this includes understandings about our own Inner Being. When we compare to others and focus on our have-nots, or to the should-haves it will cause only frustration for ourselves. When we start using tools such as, but not limited to, tarot we can start self-reflecting on our thoughts and behaviours and begin creating a quality life for ourselves. We can start tending our own garden, plant the seeds for the things we want to see grow and weed out the things we do not want.

The Collective Effects Us Whether We Are Aware or Not

When I say “collective” I am referring to the collective consciousness of this Earth, perhaps even the entire Universe.  I have seen it work through many people that have no awareness of the other person.  Think of it in terms like this, how two people on opposite ends of the earth can come up with very similar ideas and inventions, even before the internet this phenomenon was happening.

There was a lot of synchronicity last week for Root / Base chakra energy and healing.  I decided to run a workshop with some close friends.  It turns out many of them had the same thoughts on the chakra work, then it started popping up that others were running similar workshops!  It’s really amazing when you think about it.

This week we are running Sacral chakra energy and healing.  The theme comes again, running through many different channels.  People working on masculine/feminine energies, someone randomly deciding to paint a wall orange.  People are getting more in touch with their creative sides, and gaining confidence.  I know I can feel the creative juices flowing.

Lake Ontario, Kingston, ON

Above picture is one of the lake shores where my hubby and I collect driftwood and smooth stones.  Again, the creative juices are flowing, and there will be more items added to the Etsy store, crafted by the gifts given from Mother Nature herself.  We are simply the vessels which the divine flows through.  The Sacral chakra is our life center, it feeds us joy and spontaneity, it is our creative energy… and now is the time that creativity needs to be expressed, so our energies can flow.

Lake Ontario, Kingston, ON

It is hard to make out some of what it written on this stone.  But one thing that was clear to me… “love is the magic.”
What have you noticed in the collective?  Feeling any of the creative energy that’s flowing?
